EVENT 37 - Geelong Festival of Sails
Mermaidia Braids worked their magical touch at Geelong's Festival of Sails, spanning from Friday to Sunday over the Australia Day Weekend in the vibrant town of over 250,000 population. Friday (Australia Day), beneath scorching sunshine, witnessed the completion of 43 Braids/Ponytails, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Ferris Wheel on Eastern Beach.
Australia Day, a Friday public holiday, while having our amazing Lee the assist us for the day. This year we learnt our lesson, since last year we had parents of the children we were braiding literally hold their phones for light so we could see our clients through the night sky, but this year we brought lights, lol.
Saturday while watching the amazing beach volleyball Jordan & Michelle braided & Ponytailed 32 clients. Sunday being a quieter day for us, Jordan got to enjoy the beautiful ocean, she collected shells and went for many swims, enjoying her well deserved break. While Michelle got to practice her cornrow braids on our mannequin using the extension colours.
Some stories needed to be told: We got to debut our new custom-made aboriginal braid to the public which went well. We love bringing these strong cultural colours to such amazing people, that deserve to be celebrated.
Michelle got to meet some amazing kids and their families, there was a few that we must mention, she met a rocking kid, that said she had been dreamy of getting her hair done and she loved it so much. Oh, and we met a fabulous girl on her birthday. This kid was brilliant, we were closing for the day and started telling her mum and dad that we were closed and no longer taking braids. But then the child started crying because it was her birthday and she just sooooooo wanted our braids. Yep, you know us, we had to make her dreams come true. We opened back up and did the best birthday braids that ever existed, which was complimented by birthday sparkles & wishes, of a LED halo and birthday hugs from Michelle. So glad we got to be part of her magnificent day of celebrations.
Despite the logistical challenge of daily setup and pack-down, the Festival of Sails in Geelong was an extraordinary experience embraced by Michael, Michelle, and Jordan.
